Air Jordan 1

The Air Jordan I was designed by Peter Moore and marked a new era in the design of basketball shoes. The original black and red colorway was banned by the NBA due to color restrictions. This resulted in bringing more publicity and hype for the original signature shoes. Some think that this was a marketing scheme thought up by the people at Nike – whether it was marketing ploy or not the media attention stirred up by the ban helped generate so much attention that to this date, has supported twenty two different Signature Air Jordans as well as other retro versions, and limited player exclusives.
The original Air Jordan 1 came with a double set of laces to match the two colors of the shoe. For example, the black/red’s came with one set of black laces and one set of red laces.
The white/black-red and black/red Air Jordan 1 was re-released as a retro version in 1994 and although many would have thought that the shoes would sell out instantly, the re-release of the Air Jordan 1 did rather poorly. Seven years later they were re-released again in 2001 but in a patent leather colorway and by this turn of the century, the shoes did much better than its first re-release. Despite the constant change in fashion and technology, the Original Air Jordan 1 was designed to stand up to time, managing the stay in-style and remain as one of the most sought after shoes to sneaker enthusiasts and athletes around the world. Nike has created a cultural phenomenon by creatively branding a basketball shoe with the greatest basketball player of all time, his Airness – Michael Jordan.
Fun Fact: The Nike Air Jordan 1 is one of the most counterfeited shoes from the Air Jordan Signature Line.
